Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fired off a series of tweets Friday afternoon accusing Republican lawmakers of trying to destroy U.S. democracy in favor of a “far-right Christian theocracy.”
“To the GOP extremists trying to invoke ‘the unborn’ to jail people for abortion: Where are you on climate change? OH right, you want to burn fossil fuels til there’s hell on Earth,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, a democratic socialist, tweeted to her 4.2 million followers. “If they were truthful about their motives, they’d be consistent in their principles. They’re not.”
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez went on to suggest that Republicans’ pro-life efforts are inherently racist and claimed that the party would support her controversial Green New Deal climate change plan if they really cared about minority children.

What angers me about the GOP’s attempts to turn the United States into a far-right Christian theocracy is how dishonest they are about it.
At least be forthright about your desire to subvert and dismantle our democracy into a creepy theological order led by a mad king.

In an earlier tweet today she wrote that the religious right should sign on to her usury bill, unless they were “only invoking religion to punish women and queer people”.
Usury – aka high interest – happens to be explicitly denounced in the Bible (& in many other religions).
Looking forward to having the religious right uphold their principles + sign onto my bill. 😇
Unless of course they’re only invoking religion to punish women + queer people. https://t.co/h7FxTaMxKb

Ocasio-Cortez’s bills have not received much traction even within her own party, so it is doubtful her attack on the Christian right will gain her bills any additional support.
